In one line — hiYou has no company server that receives your letters. Every letter, photo and voice note is stored on your own phone, and when parents write together it travels only through your own iCloud. We (MissMrCrazy) cannot see your letters, and we don't.
hiYou does not collect any of the following:
The letters, photos, voice notes and milestone marks you create are all stored on your own phone. No other app can read them. If you delete the app, the records on your phone go with it.
If mom and dad choose to share one journal, letters travel between the two of you through your own iCloud. Even then, our company server is not in the middle. iCloud is personal storage that Apple provides to you, and its security depends on your Apple account (we recommend two-factor authentication).
When you use "the day your body knew first" or "a heartbeat at your fingertips," the app reads information such as heart rate from Apple Health (HealthKit), within the scope you allow, only on your phone, to show you as a keepsake. This health information never leaves the phone — it is not sent to our servers or anywhere else. If you don't use these features, the app doesn't access health data.
To include that day's weather in a letter, the app may briefly use your location when fetching weather. Only the city-level name is kept in the letter; the exact coordinates are not stored. Location permission is requested "while using the app" only, and letters work fine if you decline.
On the day a sealed letter opens, the app quietly lets you know and helps you deliver it. The letter is sent using a method you pick yourself (a message, email, sharing — your device's own share feature), never through our servers. Your child's contact info is not stored anywhere.
If you subscribe to Pro, payment is handled through the Apple App Store (and Google Play in future). We do not receive or store payment details such as your card number. Whether you're subscribed is confirmed on your device through Apple's own mechanism. You can cancel anytime in your Apple account settings.
hiYou does not sell, share or hand over your letters or personal information to any third party. The Apple services (iCloud, Health, payments) and weather lookups described above are used directly by your device, only as needed, and do not pass through us.
hiYou is an app for parents (adults) to write records for their child; it is not a service used by children directly. The app does not separately collect a child's personal information.
Because everything is on your own phone, you can view, edit and delete it yourself at any time. You can also export everything as one book (PDF) or a backup file to keep. Since we hold no data of yours, you don't need to contact us to have data deleted — it's handled right in the app.
